This project is part of the Vaud Canton Soil Action Plan (2025–2030) and aims to establish a network of pilot farms to improve agricultural soil quality in a sustainable manner. These farms will serve as sites for real-world experimentation and the dissemination of best practices. The ultimate goal is to enhance soil fertility and make farms more resilient to climate-related risks.
The approach is based on a simple, participatory assessment that identifies the main soil risks, including compaction, erosion, and loss of organic matter, and defines action priorities tailored to each farm. The results of this assessment will inform the development of concrete action plans, which will be co-created by farmers, advisors, and researchers. Group and peer-to-peer discussions will facilitate the sharing of experiences and encourage the adoption of locally relevant solutions.
The project is organised into two phases. First, the diagnostic method will be developed and tested on pilot farms. Then, medium-term scientific monitoring and support for the action plans will be provided.
The aim is to establish an operational framework that fosters innovation, collective learning and the widespread adoption of soil-friendly agricultural practices.
