Climate change is creating increasing challenges for organic farming systems in Korea and Switzerland, while both countries are also facing the need to support and attract young farmers. This project aims to develop and test climate-positive organic farming models that are realistic, affordable and applicable under real farm conditions.
The project will select organic demonstration farms, introduce climate-positive practices, monitor their effects and assess their impact at farm level. These practices will address both climate change mitigation, through reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved carbon storage, and climate change adaptation, through stronger resilience to climate-related risks.
In Korea, two complementary systems are proposed: an organic mixed upland vegetable farm and an organic mixed farm with cattle. These systems will allow the project to assess various climate-friendly and resilient practices.
Through bilateral collaboration between Korea (Rural Development Administration, RDA) and Switzerland (Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau, FiBL), the project will support knowledge exchange, farm-level assessment and the development of practical models that can be shared with other farmers. The expected impact is to strengthen the sustainability and climate resilience of organic farming systems while increasing their relevance and attractiveness for young farmers.
