Backstopping support for the SDC in the development of agricultural and food systems

Original titleBackstopping support for the SDC in the development of agricultural and food systems
Abstract

The "Backstopping Support to SDC" project is a comprehensive technical assistance and capacity-building initiative for the SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation). Its core idea is to enhance SDC's effectiveness and impact in sustainable agriculture and the development of resilient market systems through specialised external expertise addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution in the broader sense of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus.

The support aims to strengthen SDC's project design, implementation, and monitoring by integrating cutting-edge knowledge and best practices, ultimately fostering sustainable livelihoods and food security in partner countries. This involves providing high-level technical advice, developing capacity-building modules, and contributing to knowledge management within SDC's portfolio.

This support is provided by a consortium led by Swisscontact, in which FiBL plays a crucial role. FiBL contributes its renowned expertise in organic farming, agroecology, and sustainable food systems. FiBL provides technical backstopping, advisory services, and training on topics such as organic production, sustainable value chain development, certification, and market access for ecological products.
