Inputs

The main focus of the Inputs group is the compilation of inputs lists. A team of experts assesses which fertilisers, substrates, crop protectants, cleaning, disinfection and hygiene agents, parasiticides, feed and silage additives may be used in organic agriculture. Since the legislation only specifies which active compounds may be used, the list closes a gap in the sector with its clear stipulations on specific commercial products. For organic farmers and inspectors it would be very time-consuming to elucidate the composition and origin of the individual ingredients contained in each product. Input lists are important sources of information for organic farmers, advisors, inspectors and certifiers.

The Inputs Group compiles various inputs lists. The list for Switzerland is compiled in consultation with Bio Suisse, Demeter and the competent authorities and is binding for Bio Suisse and Demeter farmers. The list has been updated annually since 1996 and is published in German and French.

In addition, the group also publishes lists for the Netherlands (in cooperation with the certifier Skal), Italy (in cooperation with Federbio) and Sweden (in cooperation with KRAV).
