FiBL Switzerland offers parasitological diagnostics for various animal species. Please use the respective form to register for an examination and send it in together with the faecal sample. Please follow the instructions to take a sample. For tests on chickens and pigs, please use only our shipping material, which we will be happy to send you.
FiBL processes samples from sheep, goats, deer and New World camelids (llamas and alpacas) exclusively as part of research projects or in collaboration with the Consulting and Health Service for Small RuminantsBGK/SSPR. The parasitological diagnosis in cattle is available to all Swiss cattle farmers. Organic farmers receive individual recommendations in addition to the parasitological findings and a brief interpretation of the results. In addition, FiBL offers advice on parasite control for individual farms. The main focus lies on minimising parasites with a grazing strategy against gastrointestinal strongylids and on recommendations for controlling the common liver fluke and lungworms.
Only every fifth horse needs to be dewormed due to small strongylid infestation. As an alternative to the standard deworming of all animals, FiBL offers a parasite monitoring programme for selective deworming of heavily infested horses according to the principle "as little as possible - as much as necessary". Selective deworming meets the requirements of organic farming, prevents the selection of resistant parasites, protects soil organisms and saves money.
For laying hens, too, the targeted use of anthelmintics is more sensible than deworming according to a standard plan. A large number of organic laying hen farmers are already involved in the FiBL parasite monitoring programme via the egg traders. Other farmers can send in faecal samples of their hens to us. Currently, FiBL does not offer a monitoring programme for parasites in pigs. However, we examine faecal samples from pigs so that you can discuss the results with your herd veterinarian. Please use only our shipping material for this purpose, which we will be happy to send to you.
