Fact sheet: sustainable proteins in Switzerland

Original title

Faktenblatt: Nachhaltige Proteine in der Schweiz

Abstract

Switzerland's protein supply faces several challenges: a dependence on imported feed, climate-related risks to yields, and consumption patterns that diverge from dietary recommendations. This fact sheet addresses five key questions on the available options: grassland-based livestock production, proteins from side streams, grain legumes, and novel protein sources such as insects, algae and cultivated meat. For each option, it sets out the potential, the environmental and nutritional effects, and the barriers involved. The aim is to provide a sound basis for policy decisions.
