An innovative use of an agricultural by-product – Feeding grape pomace to fallow deer

Original titleInnovative Verwertung eines Nebenprodukts – Fütterung von Weintrester an Damwild
Abstract

Grape pomace is a by-product of wine production. It contains valuable tannins, essential oils and antioxidants, and its use as a feedstuff has been studied in sheep, goats and cattle. The research team now wants to investigate whether it could also be used as supplementary feed for fallow deer. To this end, the team is collaborating with farms that are willing to test fallow deer's consumption of grape pomace and its potential as a feedstuff.
