Support for organic producer groups in Africa in implementing the new EU Organic Farming Regulation 2018/848

Abstract

This project aims to support groups of organic producers in Africa, particularly in Ghana and Ethiopia, in implementing the new EU Organic Regulation 2018/848. The focus is on providing technical and practical knowledge to help better understand the new requirements and apply them effectively in practice.

The introduction of the new regulation presents significant challenges for many organic producers in Africa, especially due to:

  • the increased complexity of the regulations,
  • significantly higher compliance costs,
  • and a lack of support during the transition period.

To address these challenges, the project offers hands-on training for local experts and producers. The goal is to enhance understanding of the new rules and provide practical guidance for implementation.

Expected key results:

  • Improved capacity of producer groups to successfully navigate the transition to the new EU Organic Regulation.
  • A final report documenting progress made and providing recommendations for future interventions.

Project activities will take place throughout 2025, followed by ongoing support until the end of March 2026.
