Exberry produces food concentrates that are classified as "coloring foods" and works together with the company cybercolors. The term defines a specific group of coloring ingredients that are obtained exclusively from fruits, vegetables and edible plants and are produced without any chemicals in a physical process.
The aim of the study is to determine the CO2 footprint and water consumption of the food colorant concentrate produced by GNT Group B.V. from annatto, and to search for reference values in the literature. These are determined using the LCA method, which is based on the international guidelines for life cycle assessment (ISO 14040 and 14044). The IPCC GWP 2013 100a method and the AWARE method are used to calculate the impacts (global warming potential and water scarcity). The analysis includes agricultural primary production and processes at the bundler. Upstream and downstream activities are included up to the finished food colorant concentrate at the production site.
