Carbon footprint and other environmental impacts in different cacao production system: a long-term analysis

Abstract

This study will provide reliable, sound scientific data on the carbon footprint and other environmental impacts of different cocoa agricultural systems. This information is of high relevance for different stakeholders of the cacao sector (chocolate companies, policymakers, etc.) in order to promote management practices with a low impact on the environment, which is crucial in the current climatic crisis. It will provide scientific evidence for companies committed to the Science-Based Targets and Corporate Net-Zero standards (NZ), with a focus on Scope 3 of the Carbon footprint (all indirect upstream and downstream emissions that occur in the value chain of the reporting company).
