The project promoted agroecological practices in Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria and Benin. During the project, a contest was organised to recognise the most successful student initiatives related to agroecological practices. One of the winning teams was the Agroecological Community (AEC) Cooperative, which was founded by five young agronomists. They now run an experimental farm in southern Benin and provide training to farmers in various regions of the country. In addition to working with farmers, the AEC has also worked to raise awareness in schools by promoting the principles of agroecology and organic farming to younger generations.
Through this project, FiBL aims to support the AEC in building on its existing work by providing ongoing support for the implementation of techniques and intensifying training sessions for farmers in various regions of southern Benin. Furthermore, FiBL will share its expertise and experience by delivering a series of online training sessions on agroecological practices such as intercropping, biopesticides, cover crops and agroforestry.
