Prophylactic and therapeutic use of medicinal plants in poultry

Original titleProphylaktischer und therapeutischer Einsatz von Arzneipflanzen beim Geflügel
Abstract

The use of medicinal plants in poultry might be a sustainable option to reduce the use of antibiotics and antiparasitics, mainly in the therapy and prophylaxis of infectious diseases.

The project consists of two parts:

a) Based on the current scientific literature, the most promising medicinal plant species for prophylaxis and treatment of infectious diseases in poultry will be determined.

b) The practical use of three promising antibacterial and immunostimulant medicinal plant species will be tested in an on-farm feeding trial with broiler chickens.
