The United Nations has designated 2026 as the "International Year of the Woman Farmer." We are taking this opportunity to introduce women from the FiBL community who are also active in agricultural practice. We are running a portrait series on our social media channels, in which these women will showcase their work and share their stories. All of the portraits that have been published so far can now also be found on this website.

The United Nations (UN) has officially declared 2026 the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF). In addition, the UN Decade of Family Farming has been underway since 2019. In light of the UN's 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, women in agriculture play a crucial role in societal transformation processes.

A diversity of roles that cannot be replaced

The roles and responsibilities of women in agriculture are numerous and diverse. Each female farmer has her own unique story that informs her areas of responsibility. What they have in common is that they all – with different focuses – contribute to the development of future food systems.

Messages from the "FiBL Women in Agriculture"

The same is true of the "FiBL Women in Agriculture", who offer a brief glimpse into their career paths and current daily work in our portrait series, each sharing a message.

These messages are not solely directed at their female colleagues and readers. Their words of wisdom are intended for everyone, particularly those who play an active role in shaping the agricultural sector or aspire to do so.

A variety of contributions on fibl.org

Launched on the institute's social media channels, the campaign now also has a dedicated page on this website. Here, you can explore all the profiles in one place; new profiles of women will be added monthly until the end of the year. Additional articles on the topic of "Women in Agriculture" further enrich the page. It's worth reading the stories to find inspiration.
