After more than ten years of successful use, organicXseeds, the database for organic seeds, has undergone a comprehensive modernisation. The focus of the relaunch was a technical upgrade that now includes all forms of seeds and planting material and presents them in a much more precise way. The new organicXseeds also improves usability for organic farms, certification bodies, and authorities.

(Frankfurt am Main and Frick, January 19, 2026) – After more than a year of intensive development and testing, the completely redesigned organicXseeds database has successfully launched. It offers a new design, modern technology, and numerous features that significantly facilitate work for organic farms, certification bodies, and authorities. The development began with detailed interviews and surveys of users. Their requirements, wishes, and experiences were directly incorporated into the redevelopment.

Important Digital Tools for Organic Farming

organicXseeds meets the requirements of the EU Organic Regulation (Art. 26 of Reg. (EU) 2018/848) as well as the Swiss Organic Regulation (SR 910.18) and is the legally required database for collecting data on the availability of organic and in-conversion plant reproductive material (PRM). "The core of the relaunch is the technical upgrade, which now allows all forms of PRM to be optimally represented. Although the database was already widely used before, it now enables a much more precise and differentiated presentation of seeds, tubers, onions, grafted rootstocks, cuttings, and other propagation material," says project manager Kaja Gutzen.

Seeds and Planting Material – Clearly Organised

Other improvements include a fresh design, improved navigation – including a clear separation between seeds and planting material – and revised input forms for offer search and derogation requests that meet both national and EU legal requirements. Currently, organicXseeds is used in twelve European countries and is integrated into the respective national administrative processes. The relaunch creates a modern, connected, and efficient digital infrastructure for organic PRM.
"organicXseeds forms a closely connected digital ecosystem that creates transparency, simplifies administrative processes, and efficiently supports the use of organic PRM across Europe," explains Kaja Gutzen. An overview of the main innovations and further detailed information can be found on the national pages of organicxseeds.com and the FAQs posted there.

Background

The organicXseeds database was developed by FiBL.Currently, all European countries are required to maintain a database that meets the requirements of Art. 26 of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 (collection of data on the market availability of organic and in-conversion PRM). In Switzerland, these requirements are specified in the Ordinance on Organic Farming and the Labelling of Organically Produced Products and Food (910.18, abbreviated: Organic Ordinance), in Art. 33a (Information System for Organic Seeds and Organic Vegetative Propagation Material).
All German Federal States and the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture have commissioned FiBL to implement this legally binding and final information system through the organicXseeds database. Nationally available offers of organic and in-conversion PRM are entered into the database. Overall, twelve EU and non-EU countries use the organicXseeds.com platform, which is technically managed by FiBL and content-wise maintained by the respective national authorities. According to EU Regulation 2018/848 and the Swiss Organic Ordinance (910.18), the offers entered in the organicXseeds database form the basis for approval decisions by the responsible organisations (certification bodies or control authorities, and FiBL in Switzerland).
