Reaching 25% organic farmland in the EU by stronger and better-connected organic advisors and organic advisory services

Abstract

The overall objective of OrganicAdviceNetwork is to strengthen organic advisory services and promote their creation where they do not exist yet in the EU. These advisors will be brought together into an EU-wide advisory network on organic agriculture as well as be better connected with other actors in the AKIS system. Via E-learning modules and in-person events a broad knowledge and expertise exchange will be promoted within the network. The network will cover both plant production systems and animal husbandry and ensure a balanced geographical spread covering countries with less developed and more advanced organic advisory systems.

Detailed Description

The overall objective of OrganicAdviceNetwork is to establish an EU-wide network of 1000 organic advisors from all 27 EU member states and 7 other European countries. The network is intended to facilitate a transnational exchange of knowledge and experience among advisors, covering both plant production and livestock farming. It will encompass the diversity of organic advisory services offered by private and public organizations or freelancers. An action plan will be drawn up to define a governance structure and identify future funding streams to ensure the long-term continuation of the network. The exchange between the advisors will take place via online formats and face-to-face events. E-learning modules will be offered to promote the professional and social skills of both newcomers to the advisory sector and experienced organic advisors. Based on an analysis of drivers and barriers, the project will empower bioconsultants to improve the capacity of their organizations and promote the creation of bioconsultancy services where they do not yet exist. Successful business models for structuring and financing organic advisory services will be evaluated. The results of the project will be disseminated to stakeholders within and outside the organic network. Finally, synergies with other EU projects will be created and policy makers will be involved to promote long-term support for the network itself and for ecological advisory services in all parts of Europe.
