In this project, an internet-basedinformationsystemforVoluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS; including organic)production, domestic market and external trade data will be established, and a uniquedatabasewithtransparentand reliabledataonthesizeoftheVSSsector,notonly intheareaofproductionbutincreasinglyintheareaof domestic markets,export andimport will be built.
Theresults providedthroughthesedatacollectionactivities will be widely disseminated, aimingtoshowthatsustainableagriculturecanbeabusiness opportunity,inparticularfordevelopingcountries.Thedatawillbeusedbyawiderangeofgroupsincluding policymakers,traders,researchers,journalists,NGOsandinternationalorganisations,amongothers.
FiBL will, in close cooperation with the Internationl Trade Centre (ITC), coordinate data collection & processing on VSS in order to provide a sound basis for decision-making for successful development policies and businesses. A key tool to achieve this goal will be a set of VSS data to be added to the ITC database on the Standards Map website.
