RISE: a new method to improve the sustainability of Swiss farms

Abstract

HAFL, the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, has been developing and refining the RISE methodology for the sustainability assessment of agricultural production at farm level since 1999. Since that time, RISE has been applied in Switzerland and abroad. RISE 2.0 was developed in cooperation with FiBL from 2009 to 2011, resulting in a user-friendly extension tool that has been used mainly abroad. The present project is adapting and refining the methodology with a view to broad application in extension in Switzerland.
