Abstract

The project aims to strengthen Peru’s national organic control system to boost the competitiveness of its organic value chain. Implemented in collaboration with Peru’s National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) under the Swiss-Peruvian SeCompetitivo Program (Phase III) – facilitated by Helvetas and funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) – the initiative modernises regulatory frameworks and technical evaluation criteria to align Peru with international organic standards.

Key objectives and scope:

  • Updating the organic technical regulation: Modernising Peru's 2006 organic technical regulation to ensure alignment and equivalence with key international markets, including the European Union, the United States, and Switzerland.
  • Input evaluation methodology: Providing training and expert input to help develop a national methodology and technical guidelines to evaluate inputs used in organic production, placing special emphasis on phytosanitary management products.
  • Stakeholder engagement and capacity building: Facilitating participatory workshops, technical discussions, and an on-site expert missions to gather input, build capacity, and validate normative proposals with public and private sector actors.
