Our Indicators - Making sustainability measurable

Original titleUnsere Indikatoren - Nachhaltigkeit messbar machen
Abstract

Against the backdrop of diverse national and international requirements in the food supply chain, numerous private-law activities in the field of sustainability and the 2030 agricultural policy, the agricultural and food industries are to take on greater responsibility for defining and implementing sustainability goals. The intercompany consulting project "Our Indicators" creates the methodological and organisational basis for this.

The project's goal is to develop a scientifically robust, practical indicator system applicable throughout the entire value chain, from agricultural production to processing, trade, and consumption. At the heart of the project lies the development of a clearly defined evaluation catalogue for sustainability indicators. This catalogue will form the basis for the development of a core set of around 20 relevant indicators. At the same time, a sustainable governance structure will be established to allow transparent and comprehensible decision-making on sustainability issues.

The prioritisation of themes is based on the Federal Government's 2050 target and aligns with existing international standards, such as the CSRD, SBTi and SAFA. The project will strengthen the industry's strategic responsibility, create a common technical basis for future sustainability initiatives in the value chain (including target agreements) and simplify processes.
