Plan for the reduction and monitoring of the effects of anthelmintic resistance in ruminants

Original titlePlan de réduction et surveillance des effets de la résistance aux vermifuges en élevages de ruminants
Abstract

The "PRESERVE" project addresses the urgent issue of growing resistance of gastrointestinal nematodes to anthelmintics in ruminants, caused by massive and inappropriate drug use. This resistance threatens animal health, farm sustainability, and treatment effectiveness. Coordinated by FiBL France, the consortium brings together 10 partners and involves 101 farms, including 8 agricultural high schools across 12 French departments.

The project aims to:

  1. Detect resistances through fecal egg count reduction tests and molecular approaches.
  2. Identify, test, and assess innovative on-farm strategies for integrated resistance management.
  3. Consolidate and widely disseminate knowledge to systematize monitoring and minimize resistance.
