Technical support for large-scale organic conversion in Azerbaijan

Abstract

Following the success of the initial assessment mission in 2025 and the very favorable conditions identified for organic farming in the region, this project launches a long-term collaboration to support the organic pilot initiative in Azerbaijan. The aim is to accompany the project through its critical conversion phase, combining on-site visits and remote technical guidance.

After having provided a strategic report on the key stages of conversion and the technical requirements of such a transition, FiBL experts will provide targeted advice on crop planning, weed and soil fertility management, cover cropping, and organic farming techniques adapted to local conditions. Regular field missions will allow close monitoring of sowing, cultivation practices, and harvest outcomes, ensuring continuous feedback and improvement. Remote support will complement these visits with monthly coordination meetings and ongoing communication with local agronomists.

Beyond technical aspects, the project also addresses market planning, helping partners to prepare for the commercialization of organic products. Training sessions and capacity building will strengthen the skills of local technical staff and farmers, ensuring knowledge transfer and long-term autonomy. The collaboration seeks to lay the foundations for resilient, regenerative, and economically viable organic production systems. Ultimately, this project represents a key step in building a sustainable organic sector in Azerbaijan with strong local ownership and international expertise.
