This project aims to develop a guidance document on the new EU organic regulation 2018/848. It is aimed at operators and groups of operators in third countries who are producing plant products for exports to Europe. The guidance document is intended to help better understand and implement the requirements of the new compliance regime which is in place since 2025. The aim is to provide practical guidance to facilitate compliance with the EU requirements for the export of organic products.
In a follow-up project, FiBL developed a guide on the control of organic products for the European Union. This guide explains the new EU control system for organic production outside Europe to competent authorities and control bodies in non-EU countries. The guide describes how the EU's organic control system works, how organic imports enter the EU market, how control bodies are recognised and supervised under the compliance regime and the role of national authorities. It also provides more detail on how operators and groups of operators are inspected, certified and monitored, from application and on-site inspection to consignment checks, sampling and measures in the event of non-compliance or residue findings.
