The Plankton Vegetable Cooperative produces vegetables in the centre of Basel according to the principle of solidarity agriculture and the goals of regenerative agriculture. As most of the farmland is located in the groundwater protection zone, the canton of Basel-Stadt is funding a nutrient consultation by FiBL. As part of this consultation, soil samples are taken from all areas and analysed for nutrients and key soil parameters. On this basis, the existing fertilisation strategy is reviewed and adjusted if necessary. Nutrient inputs from mulches and green manures should be included in the fertiliser planning. In addition, the use of organic materials such as compost should be optimised.
