Empowering Rural Economies in Agriculture in Kosovo

Abstract

In response to Kosovo's challenges of high unemployment, unmet labour demands in agriculture, and a lack of organisational structure, Caritas Switzerland (CACH) has been developing the new EREA project based on the success of the former SIRED initiative. This new project aims to enhance agricultural sustainability and livelihoods by promoting organic farming practices, strengthening farmer capacity, and improving market access. Collaborating with key stakeholders such as the Institute of Agriculture Development of Kosovo (IADK) and other national associations like Organika, the project seeks to empower rural communities, while contributing to poverty reduction and social inclusion. As a key implementation partner, FiBL plays a central role both in codesigning and supplying capacity-building tools and in providing direct advice on national policies and innovative models for promoting local and sustainable consumption.
