Living beings becoming food

Original titleLebensmittel Lebewesen
Abstract

Meat consumption is only possible with previous slaughtering. This fact is all too often ignored. Killing animals has become taboo, making it tangible to children is even scandalous. As part of "Schule des Essens" (School of Eating), the FiBL program for sustainable nutrition education, we started "Lebensmittel Lebewesen" (living beings becoming food). In a multidisciplinary manner, we are researching how the subject of slaughter can/should be dealt with in a way that enables children, young people and adults to have learning experiences which in turn are the basis for responsible consumer decisions.
