New agricultural nutrient flows using water lentils

Original titleNeue landwirtschaftliche Stoffkreisläufe mit Wasserlinsen
Abstract

The aim of this project is the construction of an outdoor pilot plant for duckweed production using nitrogenous animal faeces (liquid manure). The suitability of liquid manure as a nutrient substrate and the subsequent feeding of duckweed to various livestock has been demonstrated many times. So far, this technology has not been adapted on a larger scale due to various obstacles. Many practical questions are still unanswered but very relevant for further research and development of duckweed production on manure. They could be decisive for this type of production, because the sustainability of such manure-based duckweed production has not yet been proven, and those questions will be investigated within the framework of the project.

The target groups are the agricultural sector (farmers, municipalities, cantons), feed mills and political, social and economic decision-makers.
