Recommendations for the design of legal requirements for cleaning and disinfectants in organic food processing and storage

Original titleEmpfehlungen für die Ausgestaltung der rechtlichen Vorgaben für Reinigungs- und Desinfektionsmittel in der Ökologischen Lebensmittelverarbeitung und Lagerung
Abstract

With the Organic Regulation (EU) 2018/848, binding requirements for the use of products and substances as cleaning and disinfection agents (C&D) in processing and storage facilities will apply to organic companies for the first time. The aim of the project “RuDI” is to develop a concrete technical recommendation for a practical and organic-suitable regulatory approach for the design and implementation of these requirements, which is made available to the authorities and legislators.

In developing the concept, the parameters of food safety, diversity of application procedures as well as operational and product group-specific requirements, effects on the environment and human health, EU-legal and country-specific requirements as well as costs, continuity and feasibility in practice are taken into account. During the project, representatives of the organic food processing sector in Germany and some EU countries as well as companies and associations of organic food production will be continuously involved.
