Variety trials maize

Original titleSortenversuche Mais
Abstract

Corn is strongly cultivated by breeding. The range of varieties in organic farming has so far differed only slightly from conventional varieties. The high-performance hybrids (double hybrids) are specially bred for intensive agricultural sites and are now standard. Various breeders have now bred simpler hybrids and population varieties that are especially suitable for organic farming. These are not on the list of recommended varieties of swiss-granum. Since there are no organic variety tests, no special selection is made. The selection for the list of organic varieties is made based on the company's own trials or conventional variety testing. In the future, a minimum organic variety test should be carried out so that we have results about the suitability for organic cultivation, i.e. in addition to the yield, resistance, youth development and digestibility should also be measured. In on-farm field trials, reference and test cultivars are cultivated next to each other and compared. Suitable varieties are included in the variety lists.
