Notwithstanding the war, Ukraine remains dedicated to the further advancement of organic agriculture in the country. FiBL, which has been active in projects to develop the organic sector and market in Ukraine for almost 20 years, thus encouraged the organic stakeholders to take part in the annual European Organic Day on 23 September.

The annual European Organic Day, first launched September 2021 by the European Parliament, European Council and European Commission, is part of the Action Plan for the development of organic production in the EU. The Action Plan was adopted by the European Commission on 25 March 2021, to increase the consumption of organic products, expand organic production, improve the sustainability of agriculture and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the EU Strategy “From Farm to Fork” and the EU Biodiversity Strategy.

FiBL has been supporting the Ukrainian organics sector and market development since 2005 on behalf of SECO, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs in Switzerland. Despite the full-scale war in Ukraine, the country remains committed to the development of organic agriculture as one of the priority areas in the mid-term "green" transformation of agriculture. FiBL therefore encouraged the main organic stakeholders to participate in the event to follow the path of the European integration and implementation of the European Green Deal. In the context of the European Organic Day, Ukraine and other European countries are going to promote the key role of organic agriculture in the transition process towards sustainable agriculture and consumption.

Due to the conditions of war the celebration event will take place as online conference with the title "Organic Day in Ukraine", which will be held on 23 September 2022 from 10:00 to 12:30 (CET). The main objectives of the event are to inform on the latest news about the Ukrainian organic sector and demonstrate Ukraine’s commitment to the development of organic agriculture.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, State Institution "Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office" in partnership with the Ukrainian Stakeholder Platform "Organic Initiative" with support of Switzerland within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Programs "Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine" (QFTP) and "Organic Trade for Development" (OT4D).
