The economic situation of farmers and their role within the food supply chain are topics of intense debate across Europe. A new episode of the FiBL Collaboration podcast delves into this issue: Jennifer Hirsch from FiBL Germany speaks with Francesca Bellino, Policy Officer at FiBL Europe, about the newly established Agri-Food Chain Observatory (AFCO).

Axel Wirz and Jennifer Hirsch from FiBL Germany are members of this body, contributing to efforts that promote greater transparency and fairness along the agricultural value chain. The European Commission created AFCO in March 2024 in response to widespread farmers' protests, aiming to strengthen the position of farms, improve their incomes, and shed light on costs and prices throughout the chain.
In the episode, Jennifer Hirsch and Francesca Bellino discuss AFCO's mission, its current activities, and the opportunities and challenges of building a fair food supply chain. They also reflect on the important role of organic farming, whose principles of fairness and sustainability can serve as a model for the broader sector. The episode is available on all major podcast platforms.
