The guide was developed to support the adoption of good composting practices within the MAP value chain in Kosovo. This practice aims to increase resilience to climate change, but also to enhance soil health and reduce soilborne disease pressure, particularly in intensive MAP-based crop rotations. Edited in English, Serbian and Albanian languages, it offers practical guidance to implement the use and selection of good-quality compost for local producers.
The publication is part of a broader series of technical guides developed to support sustainable agricultural production in Kosovo, under projects led by Caritas. Within the SIRED project (2021–2023), two guides were published focusing on harvest and post-harvest handling of medicinal and aromatic plants, as well as organic seedling production for MAPs. These initial publications laid the foundation for improving product quality, production practices, and nursery management within the sector.
Building on this work, further technical guides were developed within the follow-up project EREA (2024–2026), also initiated and managed by Caritas, covering topics such as organic bush berry cultivation, cover crops in MAP production, and last compost use in MAP systems. Together, these publications provide coherent, practice-oriented guidance to strengthen production systems across the MAP and berries value chain in Kosovo.
