New technical guide and training videos on organic sesame production

In the framework of a PPP project in Ethiopia implemented by FiBL in collaboration with Tradin Organic and GIZ, FiBL experts have produced a technical guide for farmers and trainers on organic sesame production. The guide summarises the 20 key steps to help producers and field technicians implement practices that are essential to achieve good, high-quality sesame yields, to maintain product quality after harvest, and to guarantee that their production is in line with organic export regulations.

The guide has been designed in a way to allow the dissemination of simple and effective measures to as many people as possible for improving organic sesame production, harvesting and post-harvest management. The guide has also been translated into Afaan Oromo, a local Ethiopian language.

As part of the project funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) also a Training of Trainers (ToT) approach for extension workers is developed in three different sesame production regions of Ethiopia.

As contamination and crop losses are main issues in sesame production, a training video has been created on these topics based on the technical guide. The video is used in the trainings, and is freely available in English and Afaan Oromo to interested parties on the FiBL YouTube channel.
