Residue risks deriving from Boscalid application

Boscalid is used in conventional agriculture as a systemic fungicide in numerous crops (fruit, vegetables, viticulture, arable farming). A FiBL study shows that contamination via soil is possible due to the poor degradability of the active ingredient.

Residue risks deriving from phosphonate application

As phosphonate is stable in plants, residues can occur even long after its application. An experiment conducted by FiBL has shown that if conventionally grown strawberry young plants are used, there is a residue risk in the first season of organic production. Another study by FiBL has shown that in viticulture, the residue risk prevails several years after an application. A third study by FiBL has shown that traces of phosphonate occur also in products for cleaning and disinfection. In this case, the residue risk is judged as low.

Residues of biphenyl

Residues/contaminations of biphenyl are repeatedly found in parsley (and less frequently in other foods as well). These are mostly due to exhaust gases in the ambient air. A study conducted by FiBL has investigated sources for residues of biphenyl in organic products and how they can be managed.

Residues of anthraquinone

Residues/contaminations of anthraquinone are sometimes found in dried foods such as dried mushrooms and tea. According to recent investigations, anthraquinone appears to form during the drying processes. A study conducted by FiBL has investigated sources of anthraquinone residues occurring in organic products and identified measures on how to avoid them.
