Detailed Description

Chocolats Halba/Sunray (CHS) imports for the retail chain Coop Bio Suisse certified pulses from various countries. China is still the most important supplier, especially for Borlotti- and kidney-beans. In order to reduce corporate image risk CHS wishes to increase imports from European countries. The supply-chain in North-Macedonia that was developed in a previous project cannot yet satisfy the demand. Additional supply chains shall be developed.
Developing supply-chains of pulses in Europe poses a significant challenge. Not only the agro-technical challenges are considerable, but also the post-harvest handling and the conformity with Bio Suisse standards of all the actors along the value chain are obstacles that must be mastered by close supervision and selective technical support.
