Positive list of cell fusion-free vegetable varieties updated

For the fifth time since 2018, FiBL, together with organic associations, is publishing a list of available cruciferous (cabbage, radish, etc.) and chicory (chicory, sugar loaf, cicorino rosso, etc.) varieties that are not based on cell fusion-transmitted cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS). The list serves as a control for producers when choosing cell fusion-free varieties in vegetable crops where cell fusion breeding is used or possible.

After a root parsley variety from cell fusion breeding was launched for the first time in winter 2020/21 with "Arctica F1", the updated list now also includes the various parsley root varieties in addition to cabbage and chicory varieties. With the new variety, cell fusion technology has arrived in a new plant family. Since the cell fusion variety from Bejo is so far the only hybrid variety among the parsley varieties - and this one is only offered dressed - there is no danger for the time being that root parsley varieties from cell fusion breeding will be used on organic farms.

The current positive list can be downloaded free of charge from the FiBL Shop.
