PSR old apple varieties

Original titlePSR traditionelle Obstsorten
Abstract

The joint project of ProSpecieRara (PSR), Coop and FiBL has been running for 20 years. During this time it has been possible to ensure that traditional fruit varieties have made their way onto the shelves, enjoy great popularity and are now an integral part of the fruit assortment at Coop.

Most PSR fruit is grown in conventional production, where residue-causing products are permitted. The further goal of this project is to ecologise the cultivation and to strive for residue-free production. For this purpose, strategies of plant protection treatments with biological products are being tested in research on storage apples.

The range of traditional pear varieties that make it into the shops is still extremely narrow. For this reason, a variety screening of dessert pears is being carried out as part of this project, with the aim of being able to launch test purchases and thus pave the way for new pear varieties to make it onto the sales shelf.
