Fundamentals of the selection of enhanced symbiotic nitrogen fixation in pea breeding

Original titleGrundlagen für die Selektion auf Stickstofffixierungsleistung in der Erbsenzüchtung
Abstract

The nitrogen fixation capacity of legumes contributes to soil fertility and the reduction of synthetic fertilizers. In order to breed specifically for nitrogen fixation capacity, methods for differentiating rhizobia genotypes are necessary. The influence of different Rhizobium strains on nitrogen fixation capacity of different pea genotypes must be considered. In PiSym, the influence of Rhizobium strains on nitrogen fixation capacity is determined and a standardized method for their molecular characterization is developed.
