Climate-neutral agriculture in Graubünden

Original titleKlimaneutrale Landwirtschaft Graubünden
Abstract

In September 2020, the government of the canton of Graubünden decided to support the project "Climate-neutral agriculture in Graubünden". It approved a budget of CHF 6.4 million for the implementation of the first of two stages (pilot phase: 2021–2025). The entire project will run for a total of 10 years. The project will initiate the transition to climate-neutral agriculture and strengthen the resilience of farms to the negative consequences of climate change. Furthermore, the farmers of Graubünden will also gain a a head start in terms of knowledge and implementation with individual, practical climate measures and projects. This should lead to a competitive advantage in a growing market for food and services (see e. g. CO2 certificates) produced in a climate-friendly way. The canton is pioneering the development of climate-neutral agriculture throughout Switzerland. On the road to a climate-neutral Switzerland, Graubünden agriculture is not becoming an obstacle, but is presenting itself as part of the solution.

FiBL is part of the climate project group, which advises the project team.
