Swiss spade test – Standardised working basics for agricultural practice and soil protection

Original titleSpatenprobe Schweizweit! Einheitliche Arbeitsgrundlagen für die landwirtschaftliche Praxis und den Vollzug von Bodenschutz
Abstract

The spade test is a simple and established method for evaluating soils. It allows users to observe important soil parameters and the influence of agricultural management with little time, material and money. The method can be learned quickly and used completely independently. In practice, however, the spade test has lost its popularity in recent years for a variety of reasons.

The aim of the project is to increase the use of this powerful soil evaluation tool in Switzerland and to standardize the methodology. The standardised spade test will freely available as a print version with a data sheet and as a mobile app. Videos and figures support the soil observation in the field. Documents for the interpretation of the soil observations will also be created in the project.
