Carbon footprint of soybean meal from the ATK company

Abstract

The Donau Soja association would like to examine the production of soybean meal of the brand processor "ATK" with regard to its environmental impact, in particular greenhouse gas emissions. The study is guided by the international LCA guidelines (ISO 14040 and 14044). ReCiPe 2016 is available as a characterization method. The focus of the analysis is on the indicator "climate change". The analyses and calculations are carried out using the life cycle assessment software Sima Pro 9.3.

The material and energy flows of the production process from the processing of the "Donauso-ja" certified soybeans to the finished soybean meal are balanced.

The functional unit is 1 kg of soybean meal. The by-product soybean oil is also taken into account. Three different allocation methods are used in the calculations (economic, energy, mass).
