Abstract

The purpose of this project is to make organic palm oil and coconut production in the tropics more sustainable. In collaboration with a local palm oil mill and a coconut processing company in Ivory Coast, the project develops and promotes climate friendly innovations that focus on nutrient cycling, CO2 reductions along these value chains, and soil fertility improvement to foster smallholder productivity levels. The core project acties relates to sound composting of palm oil mill waste and the production of biochar with waste coconut shells to produce high quality organic fertilizers for Bio Suisse certified smallholders involved in both oil palm and coconut production.
