Mixed crops Fribourg

Original titleCultures Associées Fribourg
Abstract

FiBL is conducting cultivation trials for mixed crops with the collaboration of the Agricultural Institute of the Canton of Freiburg (LIG) and other local parties at an organic farm in Fribourg from 2015 to 2017. The results are communicated via field visits, the internet, articles and courses. The project is realised as part of the organic action plan of the Canton of Fribourg. Thanks to the promising results of FiBL's trial network since 2009 and the collaboration with the actors in the value chain, mixed cultivation has been spreading. The agricultural policy 2014-17 acknowledges mixed cultivation with lupines, field beans and peas. The most commonly used combinations are peas/barley and oats/field beans. Other combinations are tested or are already in use. Nevertheless, there are still many open technical questions.
