New project on organic sector development in Ukraine

FiBL is implementing organic sector development activities in Ukraine.

The project is a part of GIZ’s on‐going Economic and Employment Promotion Program (http://eep.org.ua). GIZ is federal enterprise, supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

The contract was signed in October 2012, and FiBL’s first coordination missions took place in November. Round table meetings were held in each of the GIZ’s focus regions to identify actors’ opportunities and needs and to discuss potential project activities. FiBL developed a project road map to guide project development based on these results.

The Economic and Employment Promotion Program  will run until December 2013 to assist Ukraine's efforts to promote the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with innovative policies, regional approaches and concepts to develop competitive regional economies.

The component where FiBL is involved aims to support organic agriculture in the Carpathian oblasts of Czernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk,  as well as Crimea and Poltava by supporting co-operation and networks in the sector to facilitate the marketing of organic products.

The expert team is comprised of Beate Huber, Thomas Bernet, and Jiri Urban, all of FiBL; local consultant Alexej Kachkovskyi; Bernd Jansen from EkoConnect (www.ekoconnect.org/) and Alexander Koch from Naturland (www.naturland.de).
