In this project, the agronomic and economic possibilities and limitations of modern organic plum cultivation with and without weather protection with side netting are being investigated. The weather protection method is being used to investigate the extent to which the main problem in organic cultivation - monilial disease (Monilinia spp.) and other relevant diseases - can be reduced, thereby increasing yield and fruit quality. The additional netting of the plant will be used to investigate how the introduction of various pests (plum moth (Grapholita funebrana), spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii), etc.) can be prevented. In parallel, eight different plum varieties are being tested in these two environments. The overall aim is also to answer the question of profitability in organic production under weather protection and lateral netting.
