Breeding research on anthracnose tolerance and intercropping of lupin

Original titleZüchtungsforschung zur Anthraknosetoleranz und Mischkultureignung der Lupine
Abstract

The cultivation of lupin, a valuable protein crop, is strongly compromised by a disease called anthracnose. The project LupinBreed aims to identify anthracnose-tolerant lupin lines by testing a broad range of genetic resources in screening and field trials in close collaboration with the organic farm BioBöhler. This interdisciplinary approach will combine state-of-the-art diagnostic, molecular and biochemical methodologies. Tolerant lines will be crossed into modern breeding material and tested for their suitability in pure and mixed stands in the field. The most promising breeding lines will be selected and bred in close collaboration with the organic breeder Getreidezüchtung Peter Kunz (GZPK) and other key members of the value chain to develop marketable varieties.
