Import of organic fruits and vegetables

The project supports Coop in extending the product range of Mediterranean and tropical organic fruits and vegetables. The focus is on a better supply of exotic fruit in organic quality, such as pineapples, mangos, limes and avocados. The project is looking for suitable suppliers and supports them in preparing for Bio Suisse certification and supports Coop creating the supply chain and quality assurance. The project also provides the Coop buyers with expert advice and supports the suppliers with advice on production and certification (in certain cases).

The following activities are planned within the framework of the project:

• Professional and certification-related support of Coop's banana suppliers
• Development and consolidation of supply chains for Bio Suisse-certified tropical fruits: (a) pineapples (Costa Rica), (b) mangos (Central America, Africa), (c) limes (Mexico, among others), and (d) avocados (Peru, among others)
• Development of supply chains for not yet further defined products (e.g. kiwis, plantains, coconuts)
• Elaboration of solution approaches for severe problems in the supply chains of vegetables and fruits from the Mediterranean area
