Video: Opportunities and challenges when trading with Turkey

(March 15, 2016)

Turkey has very favourable production conditions for different organic crops. Due to its proximity to the European market, it is a major producer and exporter of organic apricots, hazelnuts, sultanas, and figs. Currently, more than 70,000 farmers are cultivating 840,000 hectares organically. Like many other countries as well, Turkey, too, faces the risk of pesticide contamination.

At BIOFACH 2016, the world's leading trade fair for organic food, a special forum "Turkey Organic" gave room to experts and participants, mainly importers from Germany, to share their experiences in how to best deal with this topic in the context of Turkey. The forum was organized by the German-Turkish Cooperation - Organic Agriculture, which is a project implemented jointly by FiBL Germany and the Turkish Association of Organic Agriculture ETO and funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Germany.

With statements by: Elisabeth Rüegg, Coordinator German-Turkish Cooperation – Organic Agriculture; Atila Ertem, National long-term expert and organic pioneer in Turkey; Norbert Kolb, Quality manager, Worlée Naturprodukte GmbH; Mustafa Akyüz, General manager ETKO Turkey; Zafer Göynügur, President of the Turkish Association of Organic Agriculture (ETO); and Jörg Lotz, German Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
