New publication on organic crop cultivation with FiBL input

(January 29, 2019)

Organic crop cultivation needs to improve yields if it is to expand its share of agricultural production. This collection reviews ways of addressing this challenge, from developing better varieties to ways of improving crop nutrition and pest control.

The collection is divided into 4 parts: Part 1 reviews developments in improving cultivation across the value chain; part 2 discusses the key topic of pests and diseases with reviews of integrated pest and weed management. Part 3 covers ways of monitoring the environmental impact of organic farming and the final part of the book discusses ways of supporting organic cultivation in the developing world.

Several FiBL experts on the topic are featured in the publication with the following articles:

  • Conservation tillage in organic farming (Maike Krauss and Paul Mäder)
  • Direct plant protection in organic farming (Bernhard Speiser, Hans-Jakob Schärer and Lucius Tamm)
  • Measuring and improving the environmental performance of organic farming (Adrian Müller, Matthias Meier, Christian Schader, Andreas Gattinger and Markus Steffens)
  • Biodiversity as a prerequisite of sustainable organic farming (Lukas Pfiffner and Laura Armengot)
