FiBL project

Title To develop sustainable legume-based farming systems and agri-feed and food chains in EU
Title Original Développer des systèmes d'agriculture durable basés sur les légumineuses et chaînes agroalimentaires et alimentaires dans l'UE
Official Acronym LegValue
Official project number 727672 (Grant agreement No.)
FiBL project number 55284
Abstract

LEGVALUE is a participatory project, open to the involvement of stakeholders in the pulse industry in Europe.

The objectives of LEGVALUE are: to define platforms for change that can contribute to greater EU self-sufficiency in plant protein production; to identify opportunities for innovation, adding value to markets and all participants in value chains; and to recognise opportunities to influence change, whether at the commercial, research or political level.

The ultimate benefits are the promotion of a larger and more profitable production of pulses and seed legumes in the EU in order to satisfy a larger, more valuable and diversified market for the benefit of all actors in value chains and to provide social and environmental benefits for all.

The project consortium, composed of 24 research and industry partners, will study a wide range of value chains, producer networks, processors and markets. This will be combined with environmental studies and the impacts of policy proposals, and finally define and recommend opportunities to influence paths of change throughout the supply chain.

The work of FiBL:

For more than 30 years, Switzerland has been growing conventional soybean varieties, specially adapted to the fresh growing conditions in Switzerland. These varieties must now be tested under biological conditions in different regions of Switzerland (Eastern Switzerland, Central Plateau, Western Switzerland) and their processing properties must be tested.

The project aims to network and coordinate the actors in the organic soybean supply chain in Switzerland. They exchange, give their opinions and discuss market issues in order to create stable framework conditions for Swiss organic soya production for all parties concerned.
