in Organic Production
European workshop for prevention of fraud
Date
Tuesday, 2nd October 9:00 to Wednesday, 3rd October 2007, 16:00
Place
FiBL in 5070 Frick, Switzerland
Content
The rapid development of the organic sector and the ever increasing demand for organic products resulted in new challenges for the organic guarantee system. An adequate response along the whole supply chain is required. Representatives of the trade, certification bodies and authorities will meet to address the challenges by identifying the most common risks to organic integrity and by initiating a process to develop and implement suitable measures in the quality assurance chain.
The workshop will include sector specific working sessions (trade, certification, authorities) to elaborate targeted concepts and code of conducts for certification bodies and traders as well as common sessions to discuss the proposed measures and exchange expectations along the control chain which allow a comprehensive approach to reduce the risk of fraud. Specific consideration will be given to:
- State of the art system in inspection
- Increasing transparency in the certification system on the international level
- Communication and cooperation among and between certification bodies, authorities and the trade
- Implementing a system for effective assessment of potential fraud in the case of cross-board trade
